A commercial builder realized early in the process that the plans for his new house read more like a commercial building than a residence. He retained LEVY DYKEMA to reimagine the house and make it their dream home.  

Set at the heart of a sprawling ranch property, the residence is surrounded by serene water features and lush woods, nestled beneath a grand oak tree. The placement was carefully considered to optimize views and capture the sweeping Texas sunsets from the porch. The goal was to create a home that reflected the family’s personal style, responded to the beauty of the landscape, and quickly developed to embody a “forever home.”

The exterior celebrates materials authentic to Texas, blending traditional and contemporary elements. Natural wood details, such as the custom front door, introduce warmth and a connection to the surrounding landscape. Designed as a single-story residence that embraces the clients’ lifestyle, the home features expansive windows framing panoramic views from every room. Deep front and back porches extend the living spaces outdoors, where locally sourced limestone forms integrated bench seating along the perimeter, perfect for relaxed outdoor setting. 

Inside, the home reflects the clients’ western roots and personal aesthetic. The interior finishes were carefully selected to elevate their decades-long collection of Texas artwork and heirloom furniture. Custom elements, including built-in gun and china cabinets, hand-painted commissioned tiles, and bespoke window treatments, infuse the home with individuality and craftsmanship. A vaulted ceiling anchors the main living space, where layers of warm wood tones and rich textures create a grand yet intimate setting for family gatherings.

Throughout the process, the relationship between our team and the clients evolved into a true partnership and a lasting friendship. Their active involvement in design decisions ensured that every detail felt authentic to their lives. What began as a retreat has since become their main residence. A home that captures their story, their land, and their spirit, offering a place to welcome family and friends for years to come.
